We are sad to bring you the news that Pat Colman, a member of Blackheath Art Society for many years, died recently. She passed away peacefully after a long term illness and we send our condolences to her much loved husband and daughters and all the family.
Whilst a student at Goldsmiths Pat joined the Art Society in its very early days. Then after a successful career teaching art & design in secondary schools, finally as Head of Art at Plumstead Manor, she sought out the Society again and very soon was giving valuable assistance on the BAS Committee.
Many BAS Members will remember Pat for her vibrant and prolific artwork and for her hard work on the Committee. Pragmatic, forthright and energetic, she could be relied upon to give direction and expert help with hanging exhibitions and joined in or led other Society activities. She negotiated with galleries to put on shows and produced eye-catching exhibition posters using her design and Photoshop skills. During Open Studios Pat and her husband, John, were generous in welcoming other artists to share showing space in their house. Pat was always ready to give practical assistance and her years of teaching aided her in this. She left the Society about 3 years ago but will be well remembered by the Members at that time for her lively participation both in exhibitions and as a volunteer Committee member.
