Terry Scales was born in Rotherhithe, at that time a busy community of Thames Watermen and visiting sailors. Coming from this background Terry is known for his deep affection for the Thames, documenting in his paintings the dramatically changing use of the Thames over some 65 years, but he also enjoys painting a variety of other subjects, in particular landscape scenes around Shoreham, in Kent.
